Being a doctor

I could still remember this one day, while we were looking cases prepared for bedside teaching in the afternoon. We went from one ward to another, from one cubicle to other cubicles, looking cases with good physical finding when we just enter this one cubicle. There were 4 patients in that cubicle, and one of it was a new case. Fresh case. Just admitted night before. This pakcik, the father of that patient, he was the one that approached us. "Tu kes baru. Fresh lagi. Dia tengah tidur, letih sangat. Semalam sakit tak boleh tidur." And, we were "Ooooo.. Masuk sebab apa encik?" That pakcik was just gave us the diagnosis, CRPS. When we asked what is it, before we really don't know what its stand for. Tried our best to figure it out but we just went blank. That pakcik was just saying, "Pergi lah google cari tengok. Kes tu rare. Saya pun baru tau lepas anak saya sakit. Doktor pun cakap kes ni rare. Google aja lah. Balik baca."

We were picking up our phone, trying to google it out when he continue, "Jumpa tak? Doktor sekarang ni senang aja. Semua google aja. Semua ada dalam internet. Tak payah susah-susah baca buku. Buka ja internet, google semua ada. Senang kan jadi doktor?"

I was speechless. If being a doctor is that easy, we wouldn't be here in front of you. If everything about medicine, diseases, treatment can be obtained from internet only, we don't need doctors to teach the medical students. If that was easier, i am a doctor today.

But. Its not. Its not about getting info from internet only. Its not about making diagnosis based on symptoms you read from textbooks, internet or whatever sources you have.

Please. Please. Please. Understand us. We are human being. We are not robot.
